I apologize for the poor quality of sound from Jarda. This was recorded on Call Recorder. I also apologize for not editing this. Just listen to a few minutes to get the gist. This is posted as a record of my level as I start to convert my passive knowledge to active knowledge. The next video record will be of day one of my Five Days to Fluency Challenge in Prague in October. I will be continuing my listening, reading and vocab review activities, while speaking three times a week with our LingQ tutors, usually 30 minutes at time. I get a report from my tutors of correct phrases containing the words and phrases that I used incorrectly. I import these reports into LingQ, where I can easily create flash cards of key phrases for study.

Dear Steve, you sound like me in Czech when I first began. It is very easy to confuse Russian structures with Czech. Take it slow and easy and you will get there. Your accent is pretty good, it is understandable. Can you vocalize the ř yet ? It is a combination of "zh" and rolled "r" into one sound. It is best to start with the "zh" and push the rolled "r" as close as you can and soon the two sounds will merge.

the ř is hit and miss. I don't worry so much about output. I know it will come. Thanks for the advicre.

I started in August and have been putting in an hour or so a day, with periods when I do little like my recent visit to Australia and New Zealand in March. Mostly I listen and read, and work on acquiring words and a familiarity with the language. My passive knowledge greatly exceeds my active knowledge. I will be speaking a few times a week with Jarda and hope that my 5 days in Prague will jump start me to fluency. We will see.

Hey Steve, you said in the description you import single words and phrases into lingq. How does one do that? Is there a way to do it without creating a lesson?

Just FYI, the guy you are talking with on Skype speaks with Common Czech dialect, which is not the universal "written" Czech learned in schools. For example, he said "v půl jedenáctý" which is correctly "v půl jedenácté" etc. Good luck with your learning and remember not to catch the bad dialect :D

Steve, Thank you so much for posting this! It helps me realize that the only way to learn to speak is to speak. Thanks for sharing this look into your Czech learning process. I am very encouraged!

Ahoj Steve, sleduji Váš kanál již delší dobu a nyní mám tu milou příležitost Vás pochválit - jste už hezký kus cesty k jazykové plynulosti - jen tak dál ! Mimochodem, budete sledovat mistroství světa v ledním hokeji 2012 ? Já budu držet oběma týmům palce ... až do finále! ;)

Steve, thank you so much for posting this video! I think it's extremely valuable for all language learners to see how you speak at the level you're currently at. It might just be the cure for perfectionism and being afraid of making mistakes - and many of us do need that cure.
