What is the difference between "unconsciously" and "subconsciously" ?

Relating to one's reactions those two words may sometimes be very close. In many cases what we did unconsciously or what we did subconsciously is just the same thing - somthing that we did without thinking, without using our mind. So, we can use them interchangeably. Anyway, as you said, there is a difference. And the difference is not too small. So, if you want to be exact in what you mean you should mind that:
a) unconsciously - WITHOUT any understanding or feeling, instinctively, automaticly (I don't know why I did that - I have no idea).
b) subconsciously - WITH an unexplainable but pretty strong and distinct inward feeling (I don't know why, but I'm sure this is the right thing I should do).

However, the term "subconscious" means the same thing; but "subconscious" never became the more common term in the fields of psychology and psychiatry.
In popular usage, such as in Metaphysical essays and books, subconscious is the term that is more commonly understood. the Mind is conceived as having different levels or degrees. Conscious is our "waking" state. The Subconscious is the level of mind below our conscious awareness. It is described in many different ways, but one way is to describe it as a powerful flowing river with great force.
I prefer personally, to refer to Conscious and Subconscious.
Metaphysical speculations also refer to a SuperConsciousness and a SuperSubConsciousness..

"the Shadow".

What we should consider is that we are reading and writing in English.
Carl Jung, who founded Analytical Psychology, was Swiss-Born, so English was not his native language. So, for whatever reasons, Jung adopted the Latin Prefix UN for "conscious" rather than SUB-conscious. I think that in the USA, subconscious is the preferred term, although pscycholoical and psychiatric journals still adhere to Jung's designations.
I do not like, nor have I ever liked the term "unconscious" because there is not, for "conscious" beings, a state of being "not-conscious". Hypnosis shows that all that happens around and within a person is being recorded in memory. So the feeling that a human being (in my unprofessional opinion) poorly expresses the idea of levels of consciousness.
