كبف تستخدم الكلمة الانجليزية ever في تكوين الأسئلة

* نستخدم Have you ever لكي نتحدث عن تجارب شخصية عندما يكون وقت التجربة غير هام .

( لاحظ أننا نستخدم زمن المضارع التام مع ever )

Have you ever seen this film ?

* نستخدم Did you ever عندما نتحدث عن شيء ما يعرف شخصان عنه .. مثلا أنا أعرف أن صديقي

تقدم لوظيفة في شركة في القاهرة ..

يمكن أن أقول له :

Did you ever hear from the company in Cairo ?

وذلك لأنني لا أشير إلي تجربة شخصية ولكن إلي حدث معين .

* نستخدم Do you ever عندما نتحدث عن عادات شخصية .. هنا الفعل يبين حدث متكرر .

Do you ever exercise?

Do you ever sleep late?

Do you ever hear from Jim?

ملحوظة هامة : أقدم لكم في المرفقات مناقشة مع أستاذة أمريكية حول استخدام

ever .

مع خالص تحياتي .

أخيكم / سيد إسماعيل

You can say:

· Did you ever see this film?

· Have you ever seen this film?

If you want to use “do” to talk about a situation, you would have to use a verb to show a repeated action. For example:

· Do you ever exercise?

· Do you ever sleep late?

· Do you ever hear from Jim?

1- What is the difference between : " Have you ever..?" and " Did you ever .."?

2- When do we use " Did you ever..?"

• Both are correct.

“Have you ever” refers to the past and how it is important in your present experience.

You would say, “Have you ever been to Egypt?” to mean in your experience, and is it relevant to the current discussion. In addition, you may go to Egypt, either again, or for the first time.

“Did you ever” means at some time in the past, and doesn’t necessarily have a relationship with the present. You would say, “Did you ever go to Egypt?” It means only in the past. It says nothing about the current conversation, and it is assumed that you will be talking only about that time or times. There is no reference to the present or to the future.
_______

3- Is the expression : " Do you ever see this film ? " completely wrong ? Please tell me WHY?

• It’s wrong because you usually see a film one time, maybe twice It’s not something that happens time and time again.

UNLESS – there is a film == the same film == shown every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for example, and people are expected to attend this film regularly. This is not a likely scenario.
But in this case, you could say, “Do you ever see this film?”
_______

4- I think that the verb see may also show repeated actions as in your examples . So,
my expression " Do you ever see this film ?" Would be - accordingly - correct !
Do you agree with me? If not, please tell me why? .

• No, I don’t agree with you, for the reasons I’ve just stated. Sorry.
_______

( I think that " ever " here has the same meaning of " always " .. Correct ??)

• No, “ever” does not mean “always,” except sometimes in poetry. It means on any occasion, even once. “Always” means continuously or at every repeated occasion.
